2011 Wedding Trends: Return of the “Princess Bride”

The days of Disney princesses and magic frog kisses may be forgotten as we enter adulthood, but the dreams and fantasies of our childhood could resurface as plans begin forming for a day that’s… all about you. Disney taught us how to love at a young age, the movies and stories that played across our television screens captivated our minds and sparked our imaginations. The 80s and 90s brought on a spur of new characters, love stories, and animated fun, adding to the list of old classics like “Snow White” and “Cinderella”. As the children of the 80s and 90s grow up and begin plans for the wedding of their dreams, a revolution has been sparked… The return of the “Princess Bride.”

One of the famously fabulous trends associated with princess brides, is princess poof. Check out these tulle, lace, and satin beauties that will make any princess bride giddy with glee.

April’s Royal Wedding sparked a buzz of excitement over what Kate Middelton’s dress would look like. Today people are still dazzled by how gorgeous the new princess looked on her big day. Mori Lee even made a nearly exact replica of Kate’s dress for Princess brides everywhere. And we have it!

Much like Charles and Diana before them, William and Kate’s Royal Wedding has sparked a new obsession with all things princess. From the horse-drawn carriages and classic cars to tiaras that will dazzle, the princess bride is back in full force.

I for one, LOVE the new Princess bride trend. After all, what better day than your wedding, when all eyes are on you, to play out a fantasy that’s been in your head since before you were even in school.

2011 Wedding Trends: Peacock Power

I love, love, LOVE this new trend!! Using a visually striking inspiration item like a peacock feather can really make it fun and easy to plan your big day. With so many gorgeous colors represented in the eye of a peacock feather, couples have a lot to choose from. I have seen some gorgeous greens in every shade from blue tinged teal and turquoise to vibrant emerald and shamrock paired with deep amethyst or even pretty pale lilac!! Some brides even throw some deep sapphire or purpley lapis in the mix. This color palette has so many options for coordinating colors schemes that the opportunities are literally endless!!

I love the idea of incorporating actual peacock feathers wherever your vendors and budget allow… Behind the boutonnieres, in centerpieces, escort cards and of course the bridal bouquet!! I’ve even seen some crafty brides that have made their own hair pieces for the bridesmaids!!

Beautiful brides everywhere are incorporating the daring colors and bold style of peacock feathers throughout their own accessories as well as their bridesmaid’s. Check out these peacock inspired masterpieces fit for any bold bride.

Alfred Angelo and Bill Levkoff have great websites that allow you to click and see what the colors would look like together. Here are a few that I made… Go play and feel free to email me your favorites!!

I also had fun finding some really pretty vest and tie colors on the Nedrebo’s website. For the more traditional bride I would have the groomsmen in the first color, the ushers in the second and the Fathers in the third. One of the continuing trends in men’s formal wear is to have coordinating colored vest and ties as opposed to matching everything exactly so for the more daring bride I would put together a couple of very striking looks using the deep royal vest and dark amethyst tie for groomsmen and then reverse it for the ushers. I love the way these weddings look in photographs, very modern and eye-catching. I love these three colors together.

Peacock inspiration can be found in almost any aspect of the wedding, from the bride, to the groom, the maids, decorations, accessories, centerpieces, and even the cake! Check out these crafty confections that will not only wow your mind, but your tastebuds as well!

I have one last fun photo to share with you. Sometimes brides will go to all time EXTREMES to make their wedding day perfect and their theme bright and bold. Have a look at this one of a kind bridal gown. Can you imagine wearing that on your wedding day? Now THAT’S peacock inspiration!

Whatever your theme or inspiration, always have fun and remember that this special, once-in-a-lifetime day is about the love that you share with your intended, family and friends.

Best wishes to all of you beautiful Wedding Tree Brides!!

Making it and Keeping it YOU

There are so many trends and traditions, expectations and ideas when it comes to planning your perfect wedding. Those come not only from the bride and groom, but from family, friends and even co-workers. They all have great ideas and insight as to what they did or what they have seen at other weddings or what they would if they could do it all over again. All these “helpful” ideas can and do turn very quickly into an overwhelming weight on the couple’s shoulders. What started out as exciting becomes exhausting.

I love all the trends: princess weddings, destination weddings, sparkly and simple, small and big weddings, elopements etc. Even though I love them all, that doesn’t mean they would be for me, and that’s what the couple needs to decide after sifting through all the differing opinions. Who are you as a bride? If you have always loved pink, why not have pink? Sure, the Royal Wedding didn’t have that, but we’re not truly royalty are we? (even though there are days…;) ) If the groom has always wanted a chocolate cake, that’s OK! Isn’t his happiness worth it? If you’ve always wanted to stand at the alter just the two of you, it’s okay to have your attendants sit in the first row.

Those personal touches, who the both of you truly are, is what will make your wedding special. If you want to wear peacock-feathered shoes under your gown, your mom will eventually forgive you! When you look back on your pictures or watch it played out on video, those are the touches that will make you smile. Those are the touches that your guests will remember.

So many weddings are put together to please parents, friends, bridesmaids, groomsmen, grandparents, the list could go on. And it is certainly important to take a few of their desires into consideration. But in the end, it comes down to a bride- applying the make-up that enhances her beauty, getting her hair styled to her preference, gracing the hall wearing the gown that makes her feel beautiful- and the groom, who waits for his chosen partner to walk towards him and make his life complete.

Because when the day is done and all the people are gone, and all that is left of the church or hall or beach are empty tables and chairs, it is the bride and groom who remain with the memories of a day that reflected the perfect love they share (and a great pair of peacock-feathered heels).

Cheers to fun, love and keeping it personal!
